Job Description

•Hybrid Position•The Director of SBA Lending is responsible for leading the SBA division, including managing business development, loan underwriting, loan processing, loan sales, servicing, operations, compliance/eligibility and administration of all SBA 7a eligible loan programs. Business development efforts include but aren’t limited to proactive networking, developing and sourcing prospects, along with providing expert SBA advice and sales support to Business Development Offices and internal lenders. The Director should possess in depth knowledge of the SBA 7a SOPs to ensure that SBA loans are properly sources, booked, sold, serviced and protected from loss or impairment in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, bank policies and sound banking practices.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversight and responsibility for overall operations as well as the talent management of SBA staff and their performance and growth to include hiring, developing, and coaching. Specific responsibilities include SBA claim submission and SBA compliance. Sets performance goals and work plans for the SBA Team members which are aggressive, achievable, tied to long-term goals and effectively delegates assignments to staff. Manage the business development efforts of the SBA BDO team, regularly calling them on brokers, customers and prospects. Coach and Performance manage the team to position them for success.

Maintains in-depth knowledge of SBA loan products, SOPs to ensure legal and regulatory compliance and sound credit decisions along with proper and timely customer service.

Oversee the underwriting of SBA loan requests submitted by BDO’s to make sure of a uniform standard in compliance with the Banks policies and SBA SOP’s.

Analyze, structure and submit loans for approval to the assigned Credit Officer. Present to loan committee all SBA loan requests in aggregate of $5 million. Work directly with the Small Business Administration to secure guarantees for qualifying loan clients based on SBA guidelines and bank policy. Update and provide continuous training to the SBA team, Bank leadership and Credit Risk teams of changes with the SOP.Ensure the SBA closing team properly documents and closes approved loan requests in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, bank policies and sound banking practices.

Ensure the SBA Portfolio Management team monitors existing loan portfolio on an ongoing basis for delinquency, document follow-up, covenant compliance, ongoing financial reporting, renewals, etc.

Oversee the sales of eligible SBA 7a loans in compliance with the SBA SOP and in conjunction with the bank’s overall profitability hurdles. Report regularly to the Chief Banking Officer and Chief Financial Officer on the current premium values, market trends and all other information pertinent to the sale of government guaranteed loans.

Maximize the bank’s ability to leverage government guaranteed lending through the SBA program to achieve our mission of serving the small business communities in which we operate. Present new products for consideration to bank leadership and explore new markets for growth. Maintain knowledge about all Firstrust loan and deposit products, both commercial and retail, and seek every opportunity to cross sell other Firstrust products and services to SBA customers.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS

Regularly required to drive a motor vehicle, occasional air travel, attending meetings at various venues, including but not limited to customers’ offices and/or properties, restaurants and other meeting locations, and ascend/descend stairs and or ladders occasionally to perform inspections. The employee may be required to lift files/materials up to 20 pounds to take to various locations. The incumbent will be expected to operate a computer terminal. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business Administration or related field preferred5 – 10 years of SBA Lending experience is required Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)Experience working on a loan origination platformStrong knowledge of the SBA 7a program and its related SOPs
