Full Job Description Payroll Manager Position Location:

This position can be based in one of our several office locations in Jackson, Mississippi; Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Birmingham, Alabama or Nashville, Tennessee. Neel-Schaffer is an ENR Top 250 Engineering Design firm based in Jackson, with offices across eight other Southeastern states. Our firm is seeking applications from a qualified and experienced Payroll Manager. This position will play an integral role in performing all facets of payroll operations regular fiscal duties to operate successfully. Qualified candidates will have excellent communication skills, a strong focus on accuracy, the ability to meet deadlines, and ensure regulatory compliance adherence.

Responsibilities Include:

Oversee the end-to-end payroll process for approximately 600-800 employees across multiple locations, nationwide using UKG / Ultimate Software and Deltek Vantagepoint. Manage day-to-day payroll operations, including payroll processing, garnishment, taxes and compliance. Ensure payroll is processed accurately and on time, including salaries, bonuses, overtime, and deductions and changes. Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as HR, Accounting, and IT teams to reconcile payroll data, resolve discrepancies and enhance payroll processes and systems. Maintain working knowledge of benefits administration within payroll systems. Ensure payroll compliance with federal, state, and local laws, including tax withholdings, and garnishments. Validate employee wage and tax information for year-end processing, to include ownership of review and distribution process for annual W-2s. Reviews various reports, including tax filings (e.g., 941, 940), wage and hour compliance, and other regulatory filings as required. Analyze payroll trends, providing recommendations to senior leadership regarding potential program adjustments.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. Minimum of 10 years of payroll management experience, including multi-state payroll, within a corporate environment. Strong knowledge of payroll software and systems (e.g., UKG, ADP, Paycor). Experience in managing payroll for large, multi-location organizations. Knowledge of federal and state labor laws, FLSA, ACA, and other regulations. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization. Ability to hold sensitive information with a high level of confidentiality and integrity Occasional travel may be required to office locations for on-site support and training.
