Job Description

TITLE:
INSURANCE CLERKQUALIFICATIONS

1. High School graduate (Associate’s degree in accounting or related field preferred)2. Understanding of general payroll laws, policies, practices and principles3. Ability to perform accurate mathematical computations4. Ability to plan, organize, set priorities, and work independently5. Ability to work under time constraints and deadlines, and shift when priorities change6. Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing7. Ability to exhibit professionalism with district staff, vendors and the public8. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information responsibly and with integrity9. Proficient in use of standard office equipment10. Proficient in Microsoft Office and the ability to operate computerized accounting andspreadsheet programs11. Ability to multitask12. Ability to give attention to detail

JOB GOAL

Accurate and prompt payment of employee benefits and withholdings and supportof payroll processing.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned, including but not limited to:1. Administers the employee benefit programs offered by the district2. Acts as liaison between employees and insurance providers regarding coverage andchanges3. Coordinates insurance enrollment activities of the district4. Coordinates the collection, processing and reporting of employee information with theHuman Resources department5. Meets with newly hired employees to explain benefits offered and assists withcompletion of enrollment forms and changes6. Maintains forms, booklets, plan documents, etc., and distributes to employees as neededor requested7. Enters benefit and deduction information in payroll database and maintains supportingdocumentation8. Maintains a log of garnishments received and responds to withholding orders9. Reconciles monthly billings to payroll reports, resolves discrepancies and submitspremiums timely10. Processes weekly time and leave records 11. Reconciles teacher leave records to substitute service invoices12. Maintains records of premium escrow amounts and processes premium refunds13. Completes employment verifications14. Responds to questions from employees regarding deductions or leave15. Assists with payroll data entry and processing as needed16. Assists with other Business Office clerical needs17. Assists with retrieving information for auditors and upon request18. Recommends improvements to payroll procedures and practices19. Assists other department personnel as appropriate and necessary20. Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance21. Supports the Hattiesburg Public School District Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan22. Performs other duties as assigned
