Job Description

Payroll Officer Hinds County, Mississippi Hinds County, MS Summary This is administrative work in directing the payroll operations of Hinds County Board of Supervisors. Employees in this position are responsible for the preparation of the payroll, involving computing and recording deductions in order to ensure accuracy of deductions; and providing necessary documentation to ensure compliance with the department’s requirements. This position will work collaboratively with HR and Budget/Finance Team members. The incumbent is under the general supervision of the Payroll Director. Essential Functions and Responsibilities The Payroll Officer will be tasked with the following duties, responsibilities, and assignments. Leveraging Workday’s technology, process and reconcile monthly payroll for 700+ Hinds County Board of Supervisors employees. Ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely. Maintain detailed and organized payroll records and processing steps. Prepare and settle payroll and tax related documents with Workday Compliance. Process wage garnishments and child support orders. Work with Accounting and Budget/Finance income tax/unemployment accounts. Assist with audits, resolve tax issues, and ad-hoc requests, and map earning and deduction codes to General Ledger. Respond to and resolve employee questions regarding payroll in a timely and thoughtful manner. Work with HR to validate data entry and process personnel changes within Workday. Audit employee changes to ensure employee records remain up to date. Respond to outside employment verifications. Reconcile, submit, and audit HR invoices. Recommend and implement process improvements that support efficiency and positive employee experience. Run reports from Workday as requested. Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations for payroll processing (941, W-2, year-end, etc.) Support HR Team in other ad hoc duties. Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned. Physical Requirements The employee must be able to: Routine lifting of objects up to 25 pounds. Minimum Qualifications A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in accounting or business administration Or Graduation from an accredited four-year high school including or supplemented by course or courses in accounting or bookkeeping, and 7+ years of payroll processing experience is required experience processing payroll in Workday required. Terms of Employment This a non-exempt position. This is an At-Will employment position.
