Job Description

Description We are looking for a dedicated Payroll Specialist to join a local government organization in Southport, North Carolina. This is a Contract to permanent position, offering the opportunity to grow within a dynamic and collaborative environment. The role involves managing payroll processes for both bi-weekly and monthly payroll cycles, ensuring accuracy and compliance with organizational policies.

Responsibilities:
  • Process bi-weekly payroll for approximately 89 employees, ensuring accurate and timely payments.
  • Manage monthly payroll for 144 individuals, including volunteers and council members, which involves more complex calculations.
  • Utilize Paylocity software to handle payroll functions efficiently and maintain accurate records.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to reconcile benefits and resolve any discrepancies as needed.
  • Assist in shaping and improving the payroll process to meet organizational needs.
  • Provide training and support for team members during initial onboarding and payroll cycles.
  • Ensure compliance with local government regulations and organizational policies throughout all payroll activities.
  • Address payroll-related inquiries and issues, providing prompt and detail-oriented resolutions. Requirements
  • Proven experience in payroll processing, preferably within a government or public sector environment.
  • Proficiency in using Paylocity or similar payroll software.
  • Strong understanding of payroll laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in handling payroll data.
  • Ability to manage multiple payroll cycles and meet strict deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with benefit reconciliation and related accounting functions is a plus.
