Job Description

The Payroll Specialist reports to the Associate Vice-President, Financial & Administrative Services and performs the following functions:

Essential Job Functions:

Processes full-time and part-time monthly payroll and disburses monthly deduction checks utilizing Ellucian software Manages TimeClock Plus software for staff time entry and leave Provides TimeClock Plus training resources to new employees Maintains and documents all payroll and leave records Identifies gaps in processes and recommends efficiencies Monitors related salary and fringe benefit budgets for all funds Works collaboratively with Human Resources Communicates with college staff regarding payroll information Coordinates with respective divisions across campus to make sure payroll is submitted to Payroll Services in a timely manner Documents and updates procedure manual for payroll processes Processes federal, state and local payroll reporting, including income taxes, FICA taxes, retirement, W-2s, etc Assists with the processing of paper checks with positive payment file, supporting documentation and distribution/mailing of checks Manages deposits and daily reports for student ID cards Provides data entry, filing, record retrieval, and reporting both manually and electronically Provides general assistance to staff members in the division by preparing documents, spreadsheets, reports, data queries, and other tasks as needed for special projects Works collaboratively with administrative support staff to develop cross-training opportunities and knowledge sharing Maintains office equipment and inventory of supplies Supports the mission, vision, and values of the College and attends College events and meetings Performs other duties as assigned that achieve the mission and initiatives of the college

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Associate’s degree in Accounting or significant progress toward the degree with anticipated completion date within 1 year At least one year of payroll or finance office experience Excellent computer skills and commitment to use of technology Competence in using Microsoft office and other software applications ADA requirements for this position include critical thinking skills with the ability to process information and exercise good judgment; ease of mobility within the work environment and other areas of campus and College locations; travel between campus locations may be required; and effective use of all forms of communication including use of computers.

Preferred Qualifications:

Related Business Office experience in a North Carolina Community College
