  • Some nonstandard hours may be required The Payroll Specialist II is responsible for payroll processing in multi-state environment of over 800 bargaining unit and non bargaining unit employees with approximately 10 payroll cycles.

The Payroll Specialist II coordinates processing with location representatives and assists Payroll Manager & Finance Department with financial reporting. The Payroll Specialist II ensures that all payroll processing is completed in a timely manner and compliant with the applicable tax and labor/employment laws. The Payroll Specialist II s upports human resources department with information technology systems and solutions. The Payroll Specialist II is r esponsible to ensure the payroll delivery adheres to the standard process, and that the payroll process meets defined service and that continuous improvement opportuniti es are identified and executed as necessary to ensure those targets are achieved and sustained. Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to) Ensures payroll systems and processes comply with all local, state/provincial and federal regulations
Ensures all payroll activities are performed according to Company policies and procedures, and that all documentation remains current to support robust knowledge management over time
Critically reviews and analyzes current payroll, benefits and tax procedures, software and processing methods in order to recommend and implement changes leading to best-practice operations
Complies with Sarbanes Oxley controls applicable to payroll and HRIS
Ensures that systems and processes correctly compute and record time, earnings, employee benefits, special deductions, mandated benefits, taxes, garnishments and other items that affect net pay and/or company liability
Acts as liaison with Finance for some reporting
Performs disbursement of multi-state payrolls, including garnishments, benefits and taxes consistent with US federal, state and local wage and hour laws
Assists location administrators
Processes special payrolls including any bonuses, year-end adjustments, and any related stock options
Communicates actively with locations and review cross-departmental impacts and reconcile data sharing
Partners with HR and benefits
Researches and resolves questions from managers and employees as they relate to the processing of payroll information
Acts as location and departmental payroll & HRIS resource
Ensures compliance with financial, legal & systems requirements
Trains & advises individuals outside of Payroll & HR Departments as to timetables, functionality, systems operations and administrative procedures
Develops continuous process improvements to maintain the accuracy, quality, efficiency and overall effectiveness of the payroll process, and decrease risk of fraud and errors
Reviews payroll documentation for accuracy through SOX reports, journal entry spreadsheet and any other data required on a per pay basis Qualifications Associates degree (A.A.), or equivalent from two-year college or technical school is required
Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.), or equivalent from four-year college or university is preferred
5-7 years Payroll experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility to include managing HRIS payroll delivery and process leadership experience is required
5-7 years Creative thinker with strong analytical, financial and system skills is required
5-7 years Demonstrated expertise in continuous improvement and problem solving techniques and customer relationship management is required
5-7 years Exceptional systems experience, with requirement for

ADP, SAP

& Excel is required
5-7 years Demonstrated ability to forge strong and trusting relationships across business group, function and geographic boundaries. Ability to collaborate with other internal corporate teams including HR, Legal, Tax, Compensation and Benefits, IT and Finance, and external partners is critical is required
5-7 years Well-organized, extreme attention to detail and a self-directed individual is required
Experience with leading payroll teams on acquisition/divestiture and integration of a new organization is preferred
