Job Description

Payroll Specialist (Technology Emphasis) 3.5 3.5 out of 5 stars Smithfield, RI 02917 Payroll Specialist (Technology Emphasis) This role focuses on individuals with strong payroll expertise combined with proficiency in technology, particularly automated payroll systems and HRIS platforms.

Key Responsibilities:
Process Payroll:

Process multi-state payrolls accurately and on time, including managing various pay types and special pay structures.

System Management:

Utilize and maintain automated payroll and timekeeping systems like ADP Workforce Now, UKG Workforce Dimensions, Workday, or similar platforms.

Data Accuracy & Reconciliation:

Enter and audit employee data, ensuring accuracy and completeness in payroll systems. This includes verifying data, reconciling reports, and resolving discrepancies.

Technology Implementation & Optimization:

Participate in system upgrades, testing, and implementation of new features. Identify opportunities for automation and process improvements within the payroll system.

Reporting & Analysis:

Generate reports using reporting tools like ADP Reporter or Business Objects. Conduct analysis of payroll data to ensure data integrity and inform decision-making.

Compliance & Audits:

Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll regulations, including tax laws and reporting requirements. Support internal and external audits by preparing reports and reconciling discrepancies.

Employee Support:

Handle employee payroll inquiries, troubleshoot issues, and provide assistance with payroll-related forms and documentation.

Collaboration:

Work with HR, finance, and other departments to ensure seamless payroll processes and effective communication.

Required Skills:
Experience:

3+ years of progressive payroll processing experience, ideally in a multi-state environment.

System Proficiency:

Strong background in payroll systems and experience with various payroll/HRIS platforms like ADP, UKG, Workday, etc.

Technical Skills:

Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including creating formulas, Pivot Tables, and using VLOOKUP. Familiarity with report writing tools.

Analytical Skills:

Strong ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and troubleshoot system issues.

Compliance:

Knowledge of payroll regulations, tax laws, and compliance requirements.

Communication:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with employees and other departments.

Detail-Oriented:

Exceptional attention to detail for accurate data entry and payroll processing.

Teamwork:

Ability to work well in a team environment and collaborate effectively with others.

Desired Qualifications:
Education:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Accounting or Business.

Certification:

Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC).

Experience in:

Multi-state payroll processing, international companies, or specific industry knowledge may be preferred depending on the role.
