Job Description Facilitates efforts of assigned team to achieve and sustain desirable results by ensuring the hospital is reimbursed timely for healthcare services by third parties, financial and charity assistance programs, and/or patient insurance coverage. Serves as an expert and team member to proactively support the centralized financial counseling team and communicate with families, physicians, and key departments to resolve issues. Conducts quality monitoring to ensure adherence of workflow processes. Works in partnership with other team members to provide quality service to proactively support efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promote a safe environment at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Experience 1 year of experience in healthcare financial counseling or related eligibility approval processes 1 year of experience in healthcare provider collection Preferred Qualifications College degree Certified Patient Account Representative (CPAR), Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA), or Certified Financial Counselor (CFC) Fluency in Spanish or other foreign languages Experience in social services or public assistance programs, including personal contact with clients 2 years of experience in healthcare financial counseling Education High school diploma or equivalent Certification Summary No professional certifications required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Must have a sense of responsibility, professionalism, empathy, and a commitment to customer service Demonstrated arithmetic and word mathematical problem-solving skills Must be able to successfully pass the Basic Windows Skill Assessment at 80% or higher rating May require travel within Metro Atlanta area as needed Job Responsibilities Interviews patients and/or family members to secure information concerning insurance coverage, eligibility, and qualification for various financial assistance programs and/or arranges payment plan. Educates, screens, and assists patient/family to obtain insurance coverage through enrollment in programs including Medicaid, Medicare, and other state-based assistance programs. Requests patient payments as necessary and identifies third-party liability accounts for the hospital. Determines eligibility of patients under Children’s Financial Assistance Program. Monitors work queue daily to complete appropriate follow-up procedures with responsible parties and include reasons of denial, dates of eligibility, and other appropriate information. Identifies and maintains list of available programs of financial sponsorship of healthcare services and eligibility requirements for each program. May complete accounts in Epic using the appropriate billing indicator. May function as supervisor of centralized financial counseling call center as necessary or during absence of supervisor. Assists with managing Charity Care and serves as the expert contact for the overall process. Coordinates the daily performance and productivity of Financial Counselors. Provides coverage at various sites when required. May obtain eligibility for medical evaluations and procedures. May coordinate activities to perform quality audits, orientate staff, and participate with recruiting efforts. Assist Supervisor and/or Manager with development of staff by: being available to teammates, acting as a resource to help complete complicated/complex tasks, providing on the job training to team, and seeking out opportunities to become actively involved in staff workflow and development. Provide Supervisor and/or Manager feedback on staff performance, educational needs, and workflow status.
