Job Description
Financial Counselor 3.7 3.7 out of 5 stars Lakewood, NJ Hiring Financial Counselors to join our growing Patient Financial Services department. These team members will help support the reduction of Accounts Receivables by guiding patients through billing inquiries, insurance resolution, and financial assistance programs. Roles are available across multiple shifts and include both Emergency Department (ED) and Inpatient/Outpatient coverage. Under limited supervision, the Financial Counselor works directly with patients, families, and internal teams to ensure accounts are resolved timely and accurately. The ideal candidate will be proactive, compassionate, and capable of navigating complex financial conversations while providing excellent customer service.
Responsibilities:
Collect balances due and resolve patient accounts via direct communication and insurance follow-up Identify, research, and correct billing errors or denials for resubmission Guide patients through Medicaid and charity care application processes Ensure documentation is accurate and completed in accordance with department standards Collaborate across departments to improve account resolution and enhance the patient experience Track and report on trends in denials, payments, and account activity
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent required 1-2 years of healthcare billing, claims, or account follow-up experience Knowledge of patient accounting systems and payer guidelines Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred (indicate on resume) Experience with Medicaid and charity care processes is highly desirable Must be organized, detail-oriented, and able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
