Class Summary Job Description
The Deputy Chief Appraiser is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the operations of the residential, commercial, and personal property appraising sections, as well as supporting the Chief Assessor with all Board of Assessor assigned duties. In addition to leading annual digest development by ensuring timely, equitable valuation across all property classes; the incumbent also leads projects that improve appraisal processes, workflow efficiency, and operational consistency across all sections. Essential Duties
Coordinates appeal strategy and staff participation for Board of Equalization, hearing officers, and Superior Court litigation. Supervises section managers, ensuring delivery of productivity, quality, and compliance metrics. Oversees vendor performance and quality control for contracted appraisal services. Reviews and interpreting legislation and regulations affecting valuation practices and exemption policies. Promotes an inclusive and collaborative work environment that values input from all positions and divisions, while fostering staff engagement and boosting organizational morale. Drives the implementation of succession planning and staff development across all appraisal divisions. Supports critical operations and deliverables that may require working outside of standard business hours, including evenings or weekends, to meet legal deadlines, board directives, and workflow priorities. Supports policy formulation and strategic recommendations presented to the Board of Assessors. Public Speaking Duties
Prepares written reports, presentations, and data summaries for the Chief Appraiser, Board of Assessors, and other stakeholders. Speaks at town halls or related public events.
Represents the Chief Appraiser and Board of Assessors in all matters as required including serving as an expert witness in court hearings. Grade
The grade for this position is 203. Salary will be dependent on education and experience. Minimum Qualifications Bachelors Degree in Real Estate Management or Business Administration AND
Four (4) years of appraisal experience; OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered. Preferred Qualifications in addition to the above minimum qualifications Two (2) or more years of supervisory experience
Six (6) years of appraisal or assessment administration experience
Georgia Department of Revenue Certification
Completion of Appraiser IV Certification Other Job Requirements/Information
Valid Driver’s License in State of Residency.
