RESIDENTIAL APPRAISER

The Residential Appraiser investigates the quality of the construction, the overall condition of the property, and its functional design in order to estimate the fair market value. An outline of tasks for a typical project is shown below.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Provide prompt, professional and courteous assistance to the public. Perform inspections of property collect and verify data with a high level of accuracy. Review commercial property submissions such as asset listing or income and expense data. Review sales transactions. Data entry and analysis. Respond to property owner questions on their property. Willingness to travel in all city neighborhoods. Perform other duties as required. Louisiana Deputy Assessors’ designation is required. The accreditation must be obtained on the job during the first three (3) of employment must have and maintain a current, valid Louisiana Driver’s License and a safe driving record. Must be able to exercise good judgement and focus on detail as required by the job.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
A BA/BS DEGREE

(OR HIGHER) in finance, accounting, real estate, business administration is preferred. Strong interpersonal, organizational, oral and written communication skills. Basic math and analytic ability. Strong Microsoft Excel skills are desired. Proficient with Microsoft Office a plus. The position requires the ability to concentrate on assigned tasks and manage time effectively. The candidate must be able to communicate clearly on the telephone and face to face. The ability to ask questions that will bring forth the information needed to make sound decisions. Experience:

Three (3) years of active residential real estate sales or property appraisal, background preferred. Must have experience with the use of a personal computer using Microsoft Office products – Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and must be able to accurately read maps, plats, and architectural plans.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Working knowledge of CAMA system is preferred. The position requires the ability to concentrate on assigned tasks and the ability to manage time effectively in order to meet production and quality objectives. The ideal candidate must be able to communicate clearly on the telephone and face to face, including the ability to ask questions that will bring forth the information needed to make sound decisions.

Physical Requirements:

The ideal candidate must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time with ability to reach, bend and move up/down. Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds of files or equipment. The position requires the ability to concentrate on assigned tasks and the ability to manage time effectively in order to meet production and quality objectives.

Requirements:

General knowledge of residential appraisal methods, procedures and techniques and must demonstrate ability to deal with the general public, and effectively present information. Position requires use of personal vehicle and a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record, and proof of liability insurance not less than $100,000-$300,000-$100,000. Must also successfully complete criminal background investigation. Must be able to become a Certified Louisiana Deputy Assessor within 3 years and maintain professional designation. Possession of an appraisal license or Real Estate Broker’s license are desired.

Compensation:

Salary range is $43,000 to $64,000 based on experience with a monthly car allowance.
