Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Town Assessor. Additionally, consideration will be given to a competent and motivated individual with viable experience involving real property. Supervision may be exercised over the work of clerical staff. Does related work as required.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Evaluates all types of real estate, analyzes appraisal reports.
- Conducts field inspections for data collection purposes and takes pictures.
- Reviews deeds, maps and other property-related records to extract and update pertinent information.
- Accurately updates real property software and related programs with new information and/or discrepancies.
- Attends taxpayer grievance/complaint hearings and provides supporting documentation to board members.
- Confers with taxpayers, colleagues and the Assessor to explain factors used in determining valuation.
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
- Good knowledge of the practices and procedures of real property sales and valuation.
- Good knowledge of legal terminology used in deeds, liens, property descriptions, and tax records.
- Working knowledge of government organization and functions, especially as they relate to property tax.
- Service-oriented individual with ability to be consistently tactful and accommodating.
- Ability to remain calm and, at times, practice de-escalation techniques.
- Ability to organize materials and follow processes and procedures in accordance with Real Property Tax Law.
- Ability to work efficiently while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Ability to use care in handling sensitive and confidential materials.
- Valid license to operate a vehicle in NYS.
