About the Role
Our fast-growing, collaborative dietary supplement company is looking to add a Scientific Advisor to our Legal & Regulatory team. This position plays a critical role in supporting the General Counsel on a wide range of legal and compliance matters, particularly those intersecting with product marketing, scientific claims, and regulatory standards. You’ll work cross-functionally with Marketing, Product Development, and R D to ensure our brand maintains scientific integrity and regulatory compliance across all channels.

Key Responsibilities
Review marketing and advertising copy for compliance with FDA and FTC regulations, including labeling, broadcast media (TV, radio), social media, testimonials, and disclosures related to negative option offers and material connections. This includes leveraging scientific expertise to creatively support marketing strategies that align with business objectives while maintaining regulatory and legal compliance.
Evaluate scientific and clinical substantiation for food and dietary supplement claims in collaboration with formulation and R D teams to ensure all statements are evidence-based and legally defensible.
Collaborate with product marketing teams to coordinate regulatory updates, ensure timely implementation of compliance actions, and support alignment between scientific, legal, and marketing objectives.
Prepare claim substantiation reports to support advertising campaigns submitted to networks and third-party platforms.
Manage regulatory correspondence, including responses to inquiries or challenges from the Better Business Bureau (BBB), state attorneys general, and federal regulatory agencies.
Provide legal and regulatory support to the General Counsel on compliance initiatives, risk mitigation strategies, and product review matters.
Qualifications & Skills
Education:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a hard science discipline (Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Physics, Neuroscience, Biochemistry, etc.) from an accredited institution.
Experience:
0-5+ years of relevant experience; research or clinical study review background is a plus.
Scientific Aptitude:
Strong interest in evaluating preclinical and clinical data to support supplement-related claims.
Mindset:
Detail-oriented, analytical thinker with the confidence to propose solutions and adapt to evolving regulatory challenges.
Communication:
Ability to synthesize complex scientific concepts into clear, regulatory-friendly summaries and recommendations.
Certification:
Willingness to pursue a Paralegal Certification (company-sponsored).
Bonus Skills (Nice to Have, but Not Required)
Prior experience in FDA/FTC regulatory environments or product compliance roles.
Exposure to marketing law or substantiation in the health and wellness space.
Familiarity with clinical databases or scientific publication research tools (e.g., PubMed).
