We are currently seeking applicants for an Equipment BreakdownRisk Engineer (EBRE) for our Columbia, MD branch operations. TheEBRE professional operates within the Risk Consulting Departmentand is considered an integral component of the valued addedservices that we provide for our commercial insurance policyholders. The position will report to the Mid-Atlantic Region BranchManager and directly support our Maryland and Washington DCterritories. The primary focus of this position is to perform riskevaluations, evaluate exposures and controls, develop meaningfulloss estimates, and communicate findings to business partners.
Responsibilities include the application of critical thinking todetermine the adequacy of controls, the likelihood of loss, themagnitude of loss, and the overall insurability. The individualwill conduct boiler and pressure vessel inspections in accordancewith jurisdictional rules by performing thorough examinations,identifying hazardous conditions, applying appropriate codes andstandards, recommending corrective action, and submitting requiredreports. The individual will communicate to customers how theserecommendations impact their business and appropriate courses ofaction. The Equipment Breakdown Risk Engineer will also performclaims investigations which include evaluating the elements of theaccident, extent of damage, damage verification, invoice review,and cause of loss. The individual provides risk improvementservices to customers, including identifying exposures withsignificant loss potential, investigation of losses and evaluationof preventative maintenance management programs. Written reportswill include evaluations of machinery breakdown and businessinterruption exposures, which will assist underwriters inevaluating risks and assigning proper premium for the exposure.
This is a remote-based role that has field travel.

Development of risk improvement reports,recommendations, and other risk assessment documentation Buildingand maintaining productive relationships with underwriting andservice teams assigned to support the business with agents, claims,and clients Managing workload within an assigned territory Takingownership of the territory and effectively prioritize, plan, andschedule work Utilizing technology resources for maximum efficiencyResponding to customer requests in a timely and professional mannerAbility to deliver timely, quality service and products to internaland external customers Qualified candidates will have a minimum of5 to 10 years of experience inspecting boilers and pressurevessels. In addition, the candidate must be prepared to fulfill anyadditional requirements of each state jurisdiction in order toobtain state commissions Candidate must have sound proficiency andexperience with industrial, mechanical and electrical equipmentCounsel and provide presentations to existing customers on avariety of safety related topics Time management and work planningskills are essential for delivering efficient and productiveworkflow Teamwork and advanced communication skills are necessaryto achieve business goals Strong interpersonal skills, includingbasic business expertise, such as sales, ability to negotiate, andthe capability to interact with a wide variety of customers areessential Additional competencies required to include proficientwriting skills, self-management, problem solving, and resultsorientation
Education and Certification:

The specificoffer will depend on an applicant’s skills and other factors. Thisrole may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annualincentive program.
