QUESTIONS An Equal Opportunity Employer Nature of Work This is an executive level position responsible for administering the day-to-day operations of the Department of Risk Management. The incumbent will administer the activities of Workers’ Compensation, Insurance Procurement, Property Liability and Subrogation, Group Medical Insurance and Safety programs. This position reports to an Assistant City Manager.

Essential Functions Responsibilities include:

reviewing and recommending Risk Control and Claims policies; identifying potential risks citywide and developing strategies to mitigate; recommending funding levels to the Self Insurance and Insurance Trust Fund; acting as trustee of the Self Insurance and Insurance Trust Fund; developing or assisting in developing the budget for the Department of Risk Management; evaluating, negotiating and recommending vendors which may provide services for the City of Miami as it relates to risk management functions; preparing and/or ensuring the preparation of regular and special reports; supervising and monitoring staff activities to ensure maximum productivity at minimal costs; assisting high-level administrators with short and long range planning strategies; attending meetings representing the City as it concerns Risk Management; may chair the Self Insurance and Insurance Trust Fund Committee; and performs other related duties as required. Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field. Extensive eight (8) years experience working with workers’ compensation, general liability, group medical, and property damage programs and a proven track record as a high-level administrator, preferably in the government sector. Considerable two (2) years supervisory and management experience is also required. An individual should possess knowledge of insurance coverage, State Law governing self-insurance and related Florida statutes. Insurance Institute of America’s Associate Risk Manager’s (ARM) designation is preferred. OR An equivalent combination of education and experience beyond a bachelor’s degree in an aforementioned or closely related field. Candidates will be subject to a Level II background screening.

A current member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES),OR
