Position Summary This position is responsible for the organization’s risk management activities, which include the investigation and management of claims in conjunction with outside legal counsel. Managing and analyzing risk management data and conducting risk management educational programs, all with the objective of controlling and minimizing loss to protect the assets of the organization. Investigates and follows up on concerns and complaints. Also, this position is responsible for patient safety and implementing JCAHO National Patient Safety Goals/Standards. Maintains and continually improves the Corporate Compliance Program by conducting audits, monitoring, and training and educating staff, management, Medical Staff and the Board of Trustees. Chairs the ethics committee.

Reports to:

Chief Nursing Officer Responsibilities of the Position Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization. Directs and evaluates departmental operations, including patient care delivery, information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management, to achieve performance and quality control objectives. Plans and monitors staffing activities, including hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions, and continuing education initiatives. Prepares, monitors, and evaluates departmental budgets, and ensures that the department operates incompliance with allocated funding. Coordinates and directs internal/external audits. Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth. Ensures department stays focused on their important role in the continuum of care. Employee also serves as the facility Patient Safety Officer. Maintains confidentiality of information of the department. Knowledge and performance of the Code of Conduct Standards. Assists in delivering high quality health care services in a professional, compassionate, and courteous manner while respecting the dignity and individuality of each person who comes in contact with the organization by following the Standards of Excellence, Standards of Behavior, and the Standards of Professional Appearance and Conduct. Minimum Education Bachelor’s degree is required. Licenses/Certifications Current NC Nursing Licensed or Multistate Nursing License is required. Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association is preferred. Minimum Work Experience Minimum of 3 years’ related experience. Medical and/or Pharmaceutical Sales experience is preferred. Required Skills Excellent communication, public speaking and interpersonal skills. Ability to function calmly and rationally in high stress situations and ability to build harmonious relationships with hospital management, personnel, and physicians. Minimum Work Experience Minimum 2 years experience in healthcare risk management, or claims investigation/management. Management/Supervisory experience preferred. Should have experience with OSHA and JCAHO. . Must-Haves Current NC Nursing Licensed or Multistate Nursing License is required. Excellent communication, public speaking and interpersonal skills. Ability to function calmly and rationally in high stress situations and ability to build harmonious relationships with hospital management, personnel, and physicians. Minimum 2 years experience in healthcare risk management, or claims investigation/management. Nice-To-Haves Management/Supervisory experience preferred. Should have experience with OSHA and JCAHO.
