Job Description
Part Time/Seasonal Administrative Specialist Town of Milford, MA 52 Main Street, Milford, MA 01757 Under the general supervision of the Treasurer/Collector, this position performs a variety of accounting and clerical duties for the Tax Collector’s office. This position works from June through March, approximately 15-19 hours per week. Essential Functions
- Performs daily entry of all Real Estate, Sewer Liens, Income & Expense (I & E) Liens, Personal Property, Motor Vehicle Excise tax payments and import and export files from the online payment system into the Town’s Lockbox service software; verifies all amounts posted.
- Performs manual entry of cash receipts into Cash Book and accurately posts to appropriate Commitment Books for prior years not computerized. This includes fees for all accounts “marked” for non-renewal at the Registry of Motor Vehicles and Municipal Lien Certificates.
- Prepares weekly Schedule of Tax Collection Payments (Turnovers) to the Treasurer/Collector and other miscellaneous reports as required.
- Coordinates the printing and mailing of Motor Vehicle excise tax bills, demands for payment, and warrants for collection with the Deputy Collector Kelly & Ryan Associates.
- Assists in the preparation of daily bank deposits, verification of daily receipts, and Municipal Lien Certificates. Assists with incoming payments via mail, verifying accuracy of amounts, signatures, etc.
- Investigates all mail returned to the office.
- Prints and mails real Estate and Personal Property delinquent payment letters.
- Assists the general public on the telephone and in person regarding questions about tax bill computation, payments, due dates, etc.
- Performs any other related duties required by the Treasurer/Collector or Assistant Collector. Required Qualifications, Education, and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent education in business and a minimum of two (2) years’ clerical experience. Preferred Qualifications, Education, and Experience
- Knowledge of Mass. General Laws, Chapter 60 and 60A a plus.
- Experience in a Tax Collector or Assessor’s Office Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and be proficient with Word and Excel.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, especially dealing with the public, are essential.
The starting wage for this Part-Time/Seasonal position is $21.26/hour starting 7/1/25.
