Description of Work Salary Grade:

NC09 The North Carolina Department of Revenue is recruiting for a Resolutions Specialist in our Excise Tax Division. As a Resolution Specialist, your responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Resolve tax return problems and questions for taxpayers, other units and outside agencies Research files and regulations to resolve problems and answer questions from taxpayers, representatives from the Excise tax industry, and officials of other states Provide leads and information to tax auditors and others; examine various tax reports to ensure accuracy, determining the disposition of refunds requested and/or issuance of tax assessments for additional liability and notifying taxpayer of such determination Administer and explain Excise tax laws, rules, procedures and regulations to taxpayers by telephone, mail, and in person Analyze information provided by the taxpayer and be able to determine which of the returns and schedules are needed for the situation Respond to questions or problems that are directed to the Excise Tax Division Explain correct filing procedures for various tax types, and collection of proper tax, penalties and interest Remain up to date with tax returns and law changes

Management Preferences:

Experience in maintaining and updating files, records and reports
