Key Functions Strategic Leadership Set and execute the tax department’s vision in alignment with LUCA’s strategic objectives Develop long-term tax strategies for clients and internal growth plans for the department Serve as a thought leader within the firm on evolving tax trends and opportunities Tax Compliance & Oversight Oversee the preparation, review, and timely filing of federal, state, and local tax returns for all client types (individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts, and nonprofits) Ensure quality control over tax processes and adherence to deadlines and regulatory requirements Develop and maintain internal systems for managing tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions Client Advisory & Relationship Management Act as the senior advisor for key client relationships, delivering tax planning insights and risk management recommendations Lead complex tax engagements and consult on mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations, and entity structuring Collaborate with clients’ external advisors (e.g., attorneys, financial planners) as needed Team Development & Management Lead, coach, and mentor a growing team of tax professionals across all levels Conduct performance evaluations, lead goal-setting, and oversee development plans for team members Foster a collaborative, supportive environment with a focus on growth, accountability, and joy in our work Monitor overall budget, capacity, and P&L responsibility Research & Technical Expertise Lead complex tax research projects and draft technical tax memos to support positions taken Stay abreast of new tax legislation, regulations, and court rulings with implications for LUCA’s clients Provide internal training and education to ensure team-wide competency in evolving tax areas Operational Improvement & Innovation Identify and implement process improvements to increase team efficiency, accuracy, and client value Evaluate and integrate new technologies, automation tools, and workflows to streamline operations Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure alignment between tax, accounting, and advisory practices Qualifications CPA required 10+ years of progressive tax experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership or senior managerial role Deep knowledge of U.S. federal and state tax codes, with strong research and technical writing skills Demonstrated ability to manage a team and complex client portfolios Exceptional communication, project management, and interpersonal skills Work Environment We offer in-office & hybrid options anchoring from our Birmingham office.
