Key FunctionsStrategic LeadershipSet and execute the tax department’s vision in alignment with LUCA’s strategic objectivesDevelop long-term tax strategies for clients and internal growth plans for the departmentServe as a thought leader within the firm on evolving tax trends and opportunitiesTax Compliance & OversightOversee the preparation, review, and timely filing of federal, state, and local tax returns for all client types (individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts, and nonprofits)Ensure quality control over tax processes and adherence to deadlines and regulatory requirementsDevelop and maintain internal systems for managing tax compliance across multiple jurisdictionsClient Advisory & Relationship ManagementAct as the senior advisor for key client relationships, delivering tax planning insights and risk management recommendationsLead complex tax engagements and consult on mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations, and entity structuringCollaborate with clients’ external advisors (e.g., attorneys, financial planners) as neededTeam Development & ManagementLead, coach, and mentor a growing team of tax professionals across all levelsConduct performance evaluations, lead goal-setting, and oversee development plans for team membersFoster a collaborative, supportive environment with a focus on growth, accountability, and joy in our workMonitor overall budget, capacity, and P&L responsibilityResearch & Technical ExpertiseLead complex tax research projects and draft technical tax memos to support positions takenStay abreast of new tax legislation, regulations, and court rulings with implications for LUCA’s clientsProvide internal training and education to ensure team-wide competency in evolving tax areasOperational Improvement & InnovationIdentify and implement process improvements to increase team efficiency, accuracy, and client valueEvaluate and integrate new technologies, automation tools, and workflows to streamline operationsCollaborate cross-functionally to ensure alignment between tax, accounting, and advisory practicesQualificationsCPA required10+ years of progressive tax experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership or senior managerial roleDeep knowledge of U.S. federal and state tax codes, with strong research and technical writing skillsDemonstrated ability to manage a team and complex client portfoliosExceptional communication, project management, and interpersonal skillsWork EnvironmentWe offer in-office & hybrid options anchoring from our Birmingham office.
