The Indirect Tax Manager will join the finance team reporting to the VP of Tax and Treasury. The individual will work closely with internal parties such as business units, accounting (GL, AR, AP, Collections, etc.), finance, and tax.
Responsibilities may also include:
Assisting with tax audits, including communication with the taxation authorities, management of audit process, evaluating and filing appeals, gathering internal and external data, working with internal and external business unit contacts, legal counsel and subject matter experts as needed, as well as documentation of issues and resolution.
Responsible for the management and review of all US sales and use tax compliance and Canadian
GST/HST/PST
compliance
Monitor tax regulatory developments and tax law changes, and communicate to the tax team including technical analysis to support nexus determinations, tax decision issues, exemption issues, and other areas of technical analysis
Assist in merger and acquisition research and analysis, including sales and use tax due diligence activities, exposure analysis and transaction tax integration
Ensure compliance with SOX 404 policies and procedures
Mentor and provide training and support to sales and use tax personnel
Manage external advisors
Manage and review real and personal property tax filings
Prepare/Review quarterly reconciliations of sales and use tax liability accounts
Research indirect tax issues and draft memorandum to ensure compliance with relevant tax laws
Act as a resource to other functional departments of the Company seeking indirect tax advice
Perform all other related duties as needed
Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Accounting or related field
7+ years of applicable tax experience, preferably including a management role within a sales and use tax function in the corporate environment
Intermediate knowledge of and experience with sales and use tax principles and law
Strong foundation of tax technical, analytical and compliance skills and experience, including process design
Industry experience with a large, publicly traded company is a plus
Experience with Vertex a plus
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access
Experience with Peoplesoft and Oracle or other ERP systems
Experience with ERP Implementation a plus
Demonstrated analytical and communication skills (written and verbal)
Strong research skills
Ability to use own judgment and initiative in problem resolution
Ability to effectively manage time and prioritize tasks
Detail and process oriented
Ability to interact and team with professionals in various functional areas to resolve complex tax issues throughout the organization
Ability to represent company with internal and external clients
