Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Supervisor, Indirect Tax plays an integral role in the development, maintenance and implementation of Denny’s Corporation’s Indirect Tax solutions and strategies for the Denny’s and Keke’s brands that are instrumental in meeting Denny’s tax compliance and operational goals. This position is primarily focused on Sales, Use and Property Tax accounting, accruals, reporting, analytical, automation and audits.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

(Key Responsibilities) Indirect and Property Tax Supervise and Lead the Indirect Tax team Coordinate Sales & Use Tax external audits, including working with the Director, Sales & Property Tax on audit defense positions taken and negotiating, settling, or protesting audits as necessary. Develop, implement, and maintain tax related compliance systems and processes and analysis and implementation of industry best practices. Resolve and improve tax systems and reporting issues. Conduct related research, planning, and contract reviews. Review capital and expense invoices for taxability determinations. Liaison between internal business teams and external vendors on related tax issues. Perform related accounting functions, including Sales & Use Tax reserve calculations, Property Tax accruals, account reconciliation, and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. Maintain current knowledge of and monitor legislation, cases and other events that may/will impact the company on related tax issues. Participation on cross-functional teams as the subject-matter expert. Maintaining and updating taxability matrices for all Denny’s Corp and subsidiary companies. Special Projects as Assigned

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Education:

Minimum of seven (7) years combined experience in Sales & Use Tax and/or Property Tax compliance and audits with a multi-state company in a retail environment. Restaurant experience a plus.

Experience:

Strong understanding of US Indirect and Property Tax determination rules Accounting or Business Degree preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Strong Microsoft Excel and Word experience, including the creation and use of complex spreadsheets. Knowledge of Excel VBA/Macros a plus. Experience with sales tax compliance software (OneSource, Sabrix, Vertex or similar). Experience using and integrating with Workday or other enterprise accounting software.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of accounting concepts that impact Indirect and Property Taxes. Self-starter and ability to work independently, prioritize and complete multiple tasks. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Attention to detail and concern for accuracy a must. Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work with or lead cross-functional teams. Professional demeanor with a high level of ethics, integrity, judgment, discretion and confidentiality. Commitment to continuous improvement and innovation of related processes. Technical expertise in Sales, Use and Property Taxes.
