Job Description

  • Job Summary:
  • (Full Time, Remote) The Manager, Indirect Tax is responsible for leading the organization’s multi-state and local indirect tax function, with a primary focus on sales and use tax compliance, reporting, and audit management.

This role ensures timely and accurate filings, manages tax software systems, provides strategic tax guidance, and collaborates with business units across the enterprise. The Manager drives compliance with evolving tax regulations while seeking operational efficiencies and supporting business objectives.

  • Essential Functions:
  • + Oversees timely and accurate filing of all multi-state and local sales and use tax returns in accordance with applicable regulations.

+ Manages and maintains Vertex sales tax software and integrates data from Oracle Fusion to support tax reporting. + Reviews, approves, and files monthly, quarterly, and annual tax returns; ensures electronic payment procedures are in place and compliant. + Maintains and updates a comprehensive Sales Tax Calendar and taxability matrices; reconciles related general ledger accounts. + Researches and interprets tax laws and regulations to assess business impact and provide guidance to leadership. + Leads audit preparation, manages inquiries from taxing authorities, and implements corrective actions based on audit findings. + Identifies and implements process improvements to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of the tax function. + Collaborates cross-functionally with Finance, Purchasing, and Accounts Payable to improve compliance and reporting processes. + Supports system upgrades and configuration changes related to indirect tax in collaboration with IT and finance system stakeholders. + Provides training and mentorship to staff and stakeholders on indirect tax procedures and regulatory updates. + Performs other duties as assigned. + Complies with all policies and standards.

  • Requirements:
  • + Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration + 7-9 years of experience in Indirect Tax, including multi-state sales and use tax + Experience using Vertex Sales & Use Tax and Oracle Cloud ERP + Experience with tax audits, compliance strategy, and system-based reporting
  • Preferred:
  • + Master’s Degree + Prior experience managing tax reporting for complex organizations + Certified Public Accountant (CPA) + Certified Member of the Institute – Sales Tax (CMI-Sales Tax)
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • + Deep understanding of indirect tax laws, including sales, use, excise, and gross receipts taxes.

+ Strong knowledge of tax data analytics and reconciliation practices. + Proficiency with Vertex, Oracle, Microsoft Excel, and Google Suite. + Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including composing responses to tax authorities. + Ability to manage multiple deadlines across jurisdictions with high attention to detail. + Strong problem-solving, process improvement, and interpersonal skills. + Ability to interpret technical tax guidance and apply it to real-world scenarios.
