Controller 4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 825 Wilson St, Wetumpka, AL 36092 Role Direct the establishment and maintenance of the organization’s accounting principles, practices, and procedures for the maintenance of its fiscal records and the preparation of its financial reports in compliance with GAAP. Direct general and property accounting, cost accounting, and budgetary control. Appraises operating results in terms of costs, budgets, operating policies, trends, and increased profit opportunities. Major Duties and Responsibilities 25% Prepare and/or oversee the production of various monthly, quarterly, and annual reports (i.e., credit union monthly financials, quarterly call reports, ad hoc reports, and studies, etc.). Assist with preparation and responses for annual audits and exams. Responsible for monthly journal entries, and the establishment of reserves as needed. Review cash account reconciliations every week and balance sheet reconciliations monthly and direct any necessary research or corrections. 20% Responsible for the efficient, timely, and correct processing of all EFT/ACH transactions and full compliance with all Federal Reserve Bank and NACHA rules. 15% Serve as a coach and mentor to the team by providing direction, support, and encouragement. Empower team members to take ownership in job responsibilities and maintain focus on the credit union’s mission, vision, and core values in goal achievement. Provide open ongoing communication to the team. Responsible for recruiting, performance management, adherence to policies, career development, recognition, employee engagement and retention. Knowledge of employment laws and practices. 15% Review the status of cash account reconciliations weekly; balance sheet reconciliations monthly and direct research/corrections necessary. Direct the development and monthly review of financial to assure accurate and timely financial information is provided to CFO and the Board of Directors to effectively manage the operations and be accountable to its customers and regulatory agencies. 10% Prepare and forecast reports assigned by the CFO to incorporate into the project budget for the following year to effectively support the credit union’s budgeting process. Prepare and manage the Accounting Department’s budget and oversee the creation and review process of all budget reports for the company before presentation to the CFO. 10% Establish, maintain knowledge and adhere to all credit union policies, procedures, federal and state laws, and regulations. 5% All other job responsibilities as assigned by management. Knowledge and Skills Experience Minimum of 8 years of progressive accounting experience at a financial institution is required. Experience in a management/supervisor role. Advanced knowledge of accounting software required. Experience with ALM modeling software is strongly preferred. Education/Certifications/Licenses A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics with relevant prior work experience. A CPA or MBA is preferred. Interpersonal Skills The ability to motivate or influence internal or external senior level professionals is a critical part of the job, requiring a significant level of influence and trust. Obtaining cooperation and agreement on important outcomes via frequently complex, senior level dialogues, as well as a professional level of written communication skills are essential to the position. Other Skills Maintains confidentiality as well as exercises discretion and judgment. Extensive knowledge of financial institutions’ regulations. Analytical, strong decision making and investigative abilities. Attention to detail and accuracy. Proficient in excel and word. Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks. ADA Requirements Physical Requirements Is able to bend, sit, and stand in order to perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion, regular lifting of up to 10 lbs. and occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on a computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance. Working Conditions Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal to moderate noise. Mental and/or Emotional Requirements Must be able to perform job functions independently and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to plan and direct the work activities of self and others. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be able to perform basic financial calculations with extreme accuracy. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
