Controller Position Available In Jefferson, Alabama

Description We are looking for an experienced Controller to oversee financial operations for a growing organization in Birmingham, Alabama. This role is integral to managing the financial health of the company, ensuring compliance with federal and state grant requirements, and driving strategic financial decisions. The position offers a hybrid work arrangement after 90 days, with one day per week working remotely.

Responsibilities:

• Manage and oversee all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities.
• Ensure compliance with federal and state grant regulations, including tracking, reporting, and auditing requirements.
• Prepare accurate financial reports, budgets, and forecasts to support organizational decision-making.
• Lead and mentor a team of 4-5 direct reports, fostering growth and collaboration.
• Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure operational efficiency.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to provide financial insights and recommendations for strategic planning.
• Monitor and manage fund accounting processes specific to non-profit operations.
• Coordinate and liaise with external auditors during audits to ensure accurate and transparent reporting.
• Stay updated on changes in accounting standards and non-profit regulations to ensure compliance.
• Support organizational growth by identifying opportunities for process improvement and cost optimization. Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Proven experience in non-profit accounting, including fund accounting and grant administration.
• Strong knowledge of federal and state grant compliance requirements.
• Previous management experience, including leading teams and driving results.
• Proficiency in accounting software and financial reporting tools.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
• CPA certification or equivalent is preferred but not required.
