Job Summary:
The Controller will oversee all financial and accounting activities for the construction company, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulatory standards, and strategic financial planning. This role will play a critical part in supporting operations, analyzing costs, and improving profitability across projects. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in construction accounting, strong leadership skills, and a hands-on approach to financial management.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee all aspects of the company’s accounting operations including GL, AP, AR, payroll, and job costing Develop and maintain project accounting processes to ensure accurate job costing and reporting Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports Manage the annual budgeting and forecasting process in coordination with operations and executive leadership Monitor cash flow, project profitability, and financial KPIs to support company goals Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and any industry-specific requirements Coordinate with external auditors, banks, and tax consultants as needed Implement internal controls and accounting policies to safeguard company assets Review and approve project budgets, change orders, and financial performance Provide strategic financial insights to leadership to aid in decision-making Lead and develop the accounting team, ensuring high performance and accountability
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred) 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a construction environment Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, including WIP, job costing, retainage, and revenue recognition Proficient in construction accounting software (e.g., Sage 300, Viewpoint, Procore, or similar) Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills Proven leadership ability and team management experience Highly organized and detail-oriented with a hands-on work ethic

Experience with bonding, insurance audits, and multi-entity operations Knowledge of project management workflows and collaboration with project managers Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
