Overview Our client, a mission-driven nonprofit organization, is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to oversee its financial operations. This is a direct-hire leadership opportunity for a finance professional who thrives in a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment and is passionate about strong financial stewardship and compliance. The Controller will be responsible for managing all accounting activities, ensuring regulatory compliance, preparing timely financial reports, and supporting strategic financial planning. This role reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Key Responsibilities Oversee the full accounting cycle, including preparation of internal and external financial statements and coordination of annual audits. Lead teams responsible for accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions. Develop, implement, and maintain financial policies and procedures; ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards. Manage cash flow, including forecasting and reporting; advise leadership on financial trends and risks. Coordinate external audit processes and manage relationships with auditors and banking institutions. Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll, expense reports, petty cash, purchase orders, and related financial transactions. Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard organizational assets. Review monthly financial statements and prepare quarterly consolidated and analytical reports. Submit all required filings to regulatory agencies in a timely and accurate manner. Oversee and support finance team performance, offering mentorship and professional development. Assist in contract negotiation and provide financial input on business decisions. Contribute to special projects and strategic initiatives as needed. Occasional travel may be required. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (Master’s preferred). Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation required. Minimum of five (5) years of financial management experience, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization. Solid understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles. Experience with accounting and payroll systems; familiarity with Sage Intacct and UKG is a plus. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel. Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
