Hammerhead Recruitment is hiring on behalf of a top 10 South Florida General Contractor (GC) and a top 50 South Florida company, widely recognized for its expertise in multifamily high-rise construction. The Construction Controller will play a central role in driving financial strategy, reporting, and compliance across the firm’s project portfolio.
Position Overview:
The Construction Controller will be responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial operations of the company’s construction activities, including job costing, financial reporting, cash flow management, and compliance. This role will serve as a strategic partner to executive leadership, providing financial insights to drive decision-making and long-term planning. Proficiency in Procore, QuickBooks, and adaptability to evolving software systems is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
1.
Financial Strategy and Oversight:
- Oversee all financial aspects of construction operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
- Provide executive leadership with timely and accurate financial statements, project cost reports, and profitability analyses.
- Partner with leadership to drive financial efficiency, cost containment, and margin optimization.

Accounting and Reporting:
- Manage general ledger functions, journal entries, monthly closings, and reconciliations.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in compliance with GAAP and internal policies.
- Oversee monthly and quarterly financial reports, including job costing and variance analysis.
3.
Project Financial Controls:
- Supervise the development and monitoring of project budgets and job cost reports.
- Establish internal controls to ensure compliance and accuracy in billing, cost allocation, and revenue recognition.
- Coordinate with project managers and accountants to ensure alignment between field operations and financial reporting.
4.
Cash Flow and Risk Management:
- Manage cash flow planning, forecasting, and reporting.
- Oversee accounts receivable and accounts payable to optimize working capital.
- Monitor bonding, insurance, and financial risk exposure across projects.
5.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of project accountants and finance professionals.
- Ensure adherence to accounting best practices and ongoing training to support team growth.
- Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and financial performance.
6.
Technology and Systems:
- Maintain and improve the use of accounting and construction management systems including Procore and QuickBooks.
- Ensure seamless integration and data flow between accounting, project management, and scheduling platforms.
- Provide leadership in evaluating and implementing new financial technologies as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (CPA or MBA preferred).
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 4 years in a senior financial role within construction.
- Strong understanding of construction accounting, job costing, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in Procore and QuickBooks required; experience with Sage 300 CRE or Viewpoint is a plus.
- In-depth knowledge of
GAAP, WIP
schedules, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
- Exceptional leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
