We seek an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to oversee the full scope of accounting operations for a multi-unit hospitality organization. This role is responsible for leading the Accounting Department and ensuring the accurate and timely preparation of internal and external financial reports, managing the monthly close process, and maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations. The ideal candidate will have over 10 years of accounting experience, including at least 5 years in multi-state food & beverage or hospitality environments. Key responsibilities include inventory and cost management, fixed asset oversight, audit coordination, budgeting, tax filings, and supervising payroll tax reporting. Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills are essential, along with proficiency in systems such as Restaurant 365, Paylocity, Toast, or Square. Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is required.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

Oversee the activities of the Accounting Department for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports, including internal and monthly external financial statements. Ensure accurate physical inventories and reporting of the cost of goods for food & beverage operations. Manage the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process, including journal entry preparation and review, financial analysis, and accurate and timely financial reporting. Monthly reconciliation of balance sheets Manage fixed asset schedules and capitalization tables. Provide accurate calculations of annual depreciation schedules and capital expenditures. Oversee and direct the timely completion of the annual budget, ensuring reasonable assumptions. Work with the outside accounting firm to provide all year-end financial information to ensure corporate income tax compliance for the accurate and timely completion of all corporate income tax returns, taking full advantage of all favorable tax codes. Ensure timely filing of the 5500s for the 5500s and the employee benefit plan. Work with the outside accounting firm to ensure timely completion of the financial and 401(k) annual audits. Verify annual audits about insurance, workers’ compensation, and 401(k). Oversee the accounts payable function to ensure all invoices are paid promptly and reasonable discounts are taken.  Manage the company expense platform. Periodic involvement in the payroll process ensures accurate payroll tax reporting by the payroll provider. Responsible for all other financial reporting and ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings, including, but not limited to, sales tax, personal property tax, unclaimed property, 1099s, etc. Oversee payroll tax reporting and handle all tax inquiries. Respond to the CFO as assigned with accurate and timely work to facilitate all financial needs. Establish and maintain systems and controls that verify the integrity of all systems, processes, and data and enhance the company’s value. Company site with co-workers, management, clients, and others promptly, courteously, and professionally. Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions. Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.

Qualification:

The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of accounting experience, with at least 5 years of multi-state and multi-unit food and beverage/hospitality accounting experience. Experience with Restaurant 365 strongly preferred. Previous experience as a Controller / Senior Staff Accountant is required. Strong time management skills set with a focus on meeting deadlines and having the capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining a high degree of accuracy. The ability to communicate effectively and work in a team environment is critical. Able to work independently, handle multiple tasks, and provide accurate data. Unquestionable integrity, excellent accounting skills, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to work closely with other department heads in a collaborative manner. Based in Miami or South Florida, I can commute to the office in Coral Gables, FL. Bilingual (English/Spanish)
