Job Opportunity:
Controller – Large Law Firm (Orlando Area) A prestigious law firm in the Orlando area is seeking a Controller to lead its financial operations. This full-time, in-office role requires Cash to GAAP experience and familiarity with ASC 842 . The ideal candidate will bring strong accounting expertise and a keen attention to detail to help manage the firm’s financial strategy and compliance. As the Controller , you will be at the helm of overseeing the firm’s financial operations, ensuring the accurate coordination of tax and accounting issues, managing the annual audit process, handling month-end closings, and overseeing day-to-day banking activities, including account sweeps and compliance. You will work directly with the Director of Accounting and play a crucial role in the firm’s financial success. This role reports to the Director of Accounting and does not involve supervisory responsibilities.
What We’re Looking For:
5+ years of experience in a similar role, ideally in a law firm or professional services environment. CPA certification is preferred but not required. Experience with Cash to GAAP and ASC 842 is essential. Strong communication and organizational skills. Proficiency in financial reporting, reconciliations, and managing day-to-day treasury operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee the activities of the accounting department to ensure accurate and timely dissemination of financial reports, including internal and external monthly financial statements and annual audits. Collaborate with external accountants for quarterly financial statements and covenant calculations. Develop and maintain internal controls for accounting operations, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards. Monitor and analyze financial performance, generating periodic reports for leadership review. Manage and reconcile the firm’s operating, trust, payroll, and drawdown bank accounts. Oversee daily treasury operations, ensuring adequate cash flow and funding for operations. This includes borrowing against lines of credit, projections, and managing capital requirements. Prepare government filings, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, and tax returns. Support the month-end and year-end close processes, including balancing the accounting system and entering journal entries as needed.
