Job Description

Associate Director of Finance Segrera Associates Wellington, FL 33414 Segrera Associates is parting with a municipality that is looking to hire an Assistant Director of Finance, The Assistant Finance Director serves as a subject matter expert in public fiscal accounting and reporting, overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, debt issuance, investments, accounts payable, and revenue collection. This role supports high-profile projects, develops fiscal strategies, ensures regulatory compliance, and advises on budget control and financial forecasting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Prepare and coordinate financial reports, including monthly statements, annual comprehensive reports, and regulatory filings. Oversee the Village’s investments, revenues, expenditures, and budget control, providing insights to management and public stakeholders. Develop and implement long-term fiscal strategies and internal controls to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance. Direct financial systems and operations, including utility billing, payroll, debt service, and cash flow management. Ensure timely payment of accounts payable, collection of receivables, and compliance with debt obligations. Monitor financial health through internal audits, data analysis, and special financial reports. Supervise and develop accounting staff, manage departmental structure, and support performance evaluations and training. Oversee budget development, forecasting, and expenditure approvals.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead, mentor, and evaluate staff, addressing performance issues and promoting professional development. Manage departmental workload, identify process improvements, and implement changes. Oversee budget planning, approve expenditures, and adjust as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in public administration, finance, accounting, or related field. 5+ years of progressive governmental accounting experience, including general ledger, financial reporting, and debt management. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Advanced knowledge of municipal finance principles, financial analysis, and forecasting. Strong leadership and personnel management skills. Expertise in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and department-specific software. Ability to analyze complex problems, develop solutions, and implement action plans. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and communicate with diverse stakeholders.
