Summary:

The company is a thriving real estate firm that is expanding operations. We are seeking a seasoned finance professional for a long-term commitment who will work directly with ownership and oversee all aspects of finance and accounting. The role includes management of a strong accounting team and implementing continuous improvements in policies, procedures, and software to enhance operational efficiency.

Job Summary:

The Controller will spearhead the company’s financial management, encompassing all accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance activities. This role requires a candidate who can strategize at a high level while also engaging directly with detailed accounting tasks in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will lead, manage, and perform these functions to ensure financial stability and growth for the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
    Strategic Financial Leadership:

    Participate in strategic planning and decision-making processes to support business growth and profitability.

      Financial Oversight:

      Oversee all accounting operations including billing of commission-based structures, accounts receivable (A/R), accounts payable (A/P), general ledger (GL) and payroll.

        Budgeting and Forecasting:

        o Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts; perform regular variance analyses to report to management.

          Financial Reporting:

          o Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements for multiple entities. o Monitor and analyze accounting data to produce financial reports or statements.

            Cash Management:

            o Maintain a rolling cash forecast in collaboration with the owners. o Review accounts payable (AP) cash requirements and approve check runs weekly.

              Cost Management and Analysis:

              Provide periodic analyses of costs and trends to enhance the decision-making of management and owners.

                IT and Systems Management:

                Manage and develop IT systems and reporting to enhance financial operations and reporting.

                  Compliance and Risk Management:

                  o Manage compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements, including tax filings. o Oversee insurance and risk functions of the business. o Research trends and guide the company’s financial partnerships such as lenders.

                    Internal Controls and Process Improvement:

                    o Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls. o Drive continuous improvement in financial processes and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

                      Closing Processes:

                      Manage and support month-end and year-end close processes to drive timely, accurate financial reporting.

                        Team Leadership:

                        Provide leadership and guidance to the back office team, fostering a high-performance work environment to support dynamic real estate operations.

                          External Relations:

                          Liaise with external tax, accounting, financial, and other advisors to ensure accurate and timely filings.

                            Project Management Support:

                            Direct and supervise the efforts of staff for ad-hoc projects as necessary. Review all contracts to understand and manage financial implications.

                            Qualifications:
                            Education:
                            • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
                            • Master’s degree in accounting or business administration preferred.
                            • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.
                            Experience:
                            • 7 years related experience at the Controller, VP of Finance or CFO level required.
                            • Strong working knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and financial reporting.
                            • Experience in managing a high-functioning accounting or office team with a hands-on approach.
                            • Proficiency with accounting software and financial management systems (such as Yardi or AppFolio, required.
