Keith Payne Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Controller to join our HVAC and plumbing service division. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations of Payne Mechanical Services. Tasks include budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, job costing, and compliance. This role plays a vital part in driving financial performance and supporting strategic decision-making in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including A/R, A/P, general ledger, and financial reporting. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Monitor job costing and profitability for individual HVAC and plumbing service operations Develop and maintain budgets and forecasts; track actuals vs. budget and provide variance analysis. Ensure accurate and timely financial close processes each month. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations. Assist with strategic planning and provide financial insights to leadership. Implement and maintain accounting controls and procedures to mitigate risk and ensure accuracy. Support software transitions or upgrades (e.g., accounting, service dispatch, CRM).

Qualifications:

3+ years of experience in a Controller or senior accounting role, preferably in construction, HVAC, or plumbing service industries. Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting. Experience with job costing, WIP schedules, and revenue recognition. Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Viewpoint, or similar), and MS Excel. Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail. Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
