6/10/2025 Position Summary The Director of Finance supports the CFO in the financial leadership of the organization. This role is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department, including full-scope accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance activities. The Director ensures timely and accurate financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders, is responsible for preparation and filing of the IRS Form 990, preparation of CMS cost reports, managing audits, and supporting the CFO in financial analysis and forecasting. Essential Functions Oversee the operations of the Finance Department and full scope accounting operations, including cash, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, revenue recognition, and financial statement preparation. Direct the Finance Department through a monthly financial close process, including financial statement preparation, analysis, presentation, and distribution. This includes appropriate application of GAAP principles, consolidation and elimination, and lease accounting. Maintain and enforce a documented system of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls, ensuring compliance across the organization to safeguard organization assets, prevent fraud, and ensure financial accuracy. Ensure organization’s compliance with all internal policies, GAAP, and federal/state/local laws and regulations. Includes oversight of the annual financial statement audit, preparation of the IRS Form 990, CMS Cost Report, and other applicable regulatory reporting needs. Maintain the accounting system and integrate applicable subsystems to ensure accurate recording of financial transactions. Create and maintain financial reports to meet the needs of the organization. Support Executive and Department leadership teams by analyzing historical and current data and summarizing results into understandable information to assist in decision making. Lead the annual operating and capital budgeting process in coordination with the CFO and department leads. Prepare financial forecasting, variance analysis, and other financial modeling, as necessary. Design and maintain an organizational structure within the Finance Department adequate for achieving organizational goals and objectives. Includes hiring, training, and leading qualified staff to success through clear expectations and accountability. Supervise and develop the Finance Department team, providing training, mentorship, and performance oversight to promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement. Perform other duties as assigned. Job Role Expectations Set department goals, manage department and employee performance, and oversee process improvement and strategic initiatives. Maintain and approve time cards of direct reports. Take an active role in quality compliance and process improvement. Work in conjunction with the Quality department to address quality concerns and areas for improvement. Participate in and support QAPI activities and adherence to policies. Utilize available data to assess overall performance of the department. Lead department through process improvement efforts. Resolve occurrence reports. Oversee documentation and upkeep of personnel training records, and ensure quality control and consistency in documentation. Keep direct supervisor updated on issues/challenges within department through reporting or monthly meetings. Manage work-related illnesses and injuries. Participate in assigned leadership meetings/training. Create and foster positive professional relationships for enhanced collaboration with internal and external customers, partners and stakeholders. Participate in job-related external meetings, conferences and workshops and industry associations. Organizational Expectations Upholds LOPA core values of selfless, authentic and passionate. Supervisory or Advanced Responsibilities Supervision of direct reports per Organizational Chart. Role Progression This role may be eligible for progression to an Executive position if one is made available. Promotion to Executive will be at the discretion of the Executive team. Work Environment Office setting with hybrid or remote options as appropriate. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to meet deadlines or attend board meetings. Possible exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, airborne illnesses, hazardous materials, pharmacological agents with little likelihood of harm if established health precautions are followed. May, at times, have exposure to blood, packaged organs and tissues for transplant and/or research in a hospital setting or while in the office. Possible mental and visual fatigue associated with detailed work. Travel may be required. Physical Demands Occasional ascending/descending of stairs Remaining in a stationary position (sedentary work), often sitting for prolonged periods of time Communicating with others verbally and electronically to exchange information Repeating motions that may include wrists, hands and/or fingers (i.e. typing) Most of work requires visual acuity and ability to hear Assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work assigned Occasional light lifting or moving of objects up to 20 pounds Work Hours Full time, salaried position. Typical work hours are Monday-Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm with flex time available at the discretion of the direct supervisor.

Requirements:

Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or Master’s degree preferred. Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive finance and accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role. Experience in nonprofit finance and accounting, including preparation of IRS Form 990. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial regulations governing nonprofit organizations. Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly. Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with financial reporting tools preferred. Mission-driven mindset with a commitment to ethical financial stewardship. Ability to think critically to solve problems. Highly organized, detail-oriented, reliable, and flexible; thrives in a fast-paced environment; a driving force who manages toward clarity, finds solutions, and is able to think strategically about the organization. Strong analytic capabilities with the ability to translate insights into strategies and plans that align with organizational goals and objectives. Skilled in establishing and maintaining relationships with internal and external contacts. A team player with a flexible, collaborative and creative approach who can lead along the LOPA team. Ability to see the organizational goals as they relate to the “big picture.” Ability to maintain confidentiality. Preferred Experience Prior experience working in healthcare, organ procurement, or other nonprofit healthcare settings. Experience supporting board-level finance or audit committees.
