The JCC is a wonderful place to be active, healthy, and engaged. Our community enjoys our facility which houses recreational, educational, summer camps and physical fitness programs as well as a year-round child development and academic (early childhood) center and sports programs for children, adults, families, and seniors. Position Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and mission-driven Finance Director to lead the financial management and strategy of our community center. The Finance Director will be a key member of the leadership team, responsible for ensuring the financial health and sustainability of the organization. This role combines strategic financial planning, operational oversight, and compliance management within a dynamic nonprofit setting. Key Responsibilities Provide strategic financial input and leadership to the Worcester JCC, Executive Director, and Board. Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making and long-term planning. Oversee all financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, accounting, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with GAAP standards, federal, state, and local nonprofit regulations, including IRS requirements and grant reporting. Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Prepare timely and accurate financial statements, budget and cash flow analyses for the Board of Directors and Executive Director. Oversee development of the annual budget in partnership with the Executive Director, program leaders, and Board (including the Finance Committee). Provide the Executive Director, department heads, and Board (including the Finance Committee) with regular budget updates, including revenue and expenses, to allow for decision making, program implementation, and planning. Effectively communicate and present critical financial matters to the Board, attend Board and Finance Committee meetings, and present updates and provide reports as needed and requested. Participate in fundraising planning and grant proposal budgeting as needed. Lead the annual audit and 990 processes, serving as principal liaison coordinating with external auditors, and ensure resolution of audit findings. Manage cash flow, investments, and grant funding to align with organizational priorities and timelines. Manage the general ledger and account analysis and prepare bank reconciliations. Manage relationships with banks, lenders, and vendors. Supervise the accounts payable process via Stampli (online system), approve invoices, ensure timely payment, and manage positive pay. Prepare annual 1099s. • Supervise staff to ensure billing & collections are processed timely. Supervise finance staff and foster professional development within the finance team. Develop and maintain a highly supportive, collegial, and inclusive work environment consistent with the Worcester JCC mission and values. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field; CPA or advanced degree (MBA, MPA) preferred. Minimum 10 years of progressive financial management experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment. Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards (FASB), GAAP, and regulatory requirements. Experience managing audits and working with auditors. Proficient with accounting software (QuickBooks experience preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with financial reporting tools is essential. Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and cash flow projections. Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders. Ability to work with, support, and develop teams; and promote a collegial, supportive, and inclusive work environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organizations, including with the Board, senior leadership, staff, Worcester JCC members, volunteers, community, and stakeholders. Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials withing established timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
