Job Description

Description We are looking for an experienced and driven Controller to lead the financial operations of our organization in Portland, Maine. In this pivotal role, you will manage a skilled team while ensuring adherence to financial regulations and best practices. This position offers the opportunity to shape financial strategies, oversee reporting, and contribute to the organization’s overall success.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals.
  • Oversee the preparation and presentation of accurate monthly financial statements and year-end reports in compliance with GAAP.
  • Monitor cash flow and provide strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Coordinate the development and tracking of annual operating and capital budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Collaborate with external auditors to complete the annual audit and ensure timely filing of required reports, including Form 990.
  • Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, systems, and internal controls to enhance efficiency and mitigate risks.
  • Supervise the preparation and submission of Medicare and Medicaid cost reports, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Maintain oversight of Medicare/Medicaid-related activities to maximize reimbursement and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Work closely with leadership to continuously improve financial reporting and operational effectiveness. Requirements
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in healthcare accounting, including leadership and supervisory roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and develop a team.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft GP accounting software and payroll systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting is required.
  • Deep understanding of Medicare and Medicaid regulations and reimbursement processes.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement financial systems and controls.
  • A commitment to continuous learning and attention to detail in growth.
