Rector The Director of Finance and Operations serves as a strategic partner to the Rector, overseeing the Cathedral’s financial health, facilities, human resources, and day-to-day operational functions. This role ensures the effective stewardship of the Cathedral’s resources in support of its mission, worship, and ministries. The Director of Finance and Operations is the primary contact in working with parish volunteers and vendors. It is also the primary point of contact with the Archdiocese on administrative matters. Job Responsibilities Financial Management Oversee all accounting functions, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and audits. Develop and manage the annual operating and capital budgets. Prepare regular financial statements and present analysis to the Rector and Finance Council. Supervise accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities. Ensure compliance with Archdiocesan financial policies and civil regulations. Operations and Facilities Direct the maintenance, security, and capital improvement projects of the Cathedral campus (including church, rectory, offices, and grounds). Manage Completion of Maintenance plans Manage all aspects of capital spending, from bid specs to project completion, in coordination with Archdiocese. Supervise facility staff and vendors. Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, fire codes). Risk Management Protect all Parish Assets through: Effective safeguards for cash and other financial assets Effective financial reporting, in compliance with GAAP and Archdiocesan guidelines Annual insurance program Assist with periodic auditing by the Archdiocese Manage programs and systems to ensure individual safety Manage programs and systems to ensure the security of all physical assets Information Technology and Communication Systems Manage all aspects of the IT and telephone systems, including: equipment, service contracts, domain names, licensing, firewalls & antivirus systems, etc. Human Resources Manage HR functions, including onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, and personnel policies. Maintain employee records and ensure compliance with Archdiocesan policies and employment laws. Support a culture of mission-driven professionalism among Cathedral staff. Administration and Strategic Planning Support the Rector and Parish Leadership in long-term planning and organizational development. Assist in developing parish policies and procedures that enhance operational efficiency. Liaise with the Archdiocese and external partners on legal, contractual, and financial matters. Job Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s or CPA preferred). Minimum 5 years’ experience in financial and operational leadership, preferably in a nonprofit or church setting. Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP) and financial software (QuickBooks or similar). Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Practicing Catholic with an understanding and respect for the mission of the Catholic Church. Additional Information Full-time, exempt position with benefits.
