Job Description Overview The Controller is responsible fordirection and guidance for all plant accounting functions, inaccordance with corporate and GAAP guidelines. The Controllerprepares financial reports and renders advice & assistance tomanagement teams regarding the plant’s financial affairs. TheController works directly with the plant’s General Manager andSenior Director Operations Finance to drive operational financialperformance. Provides oversight on plant financials. Directs andleads the accounting department. Ensures Company assets areproperly safeguarded. Responsibilities
- Directs and has functionalresponsibility for accounting activities; provides technicalguidance, leadership, and direction to direct reports andmanagement staff regarding the financial management of thebusiness.
- Oversees communication, implementation, andadministration of accounting policies and procedures essential tothe maintenance of adequate internal control of operations;implements internal systems to improve efficiency of operations.
- Prepares and administers department budget; exercises generaldirection over the preparation of the plant’s annual budgets andcapital expenditure plans; monitors performance against budgetedtargets; formulates and recommends specific courses of action toresolve problems areas.
- Directs the preparation and presentationof the plant’s financial information to the General Manager;ensures all data is accurately and uniformly recorded and reportedto properly represent the plant’s financial position.
- Conductsstudies and analyses of internal financial data; interprets andreports to management significant events and practices having animpact on business operations.
- Participates in the formulation ofshort term and long-range financial goals and objectives; analyzesfinancial aspects of strategies and plans and makes specificrecommendations which will result in cost reductions and profitimprovement.
- Supervises maintenance of ledgers, inventory recordsof raw materials, packaging, and finished goods and relatedaccounting reports, files and documents; ensures all accountingfunctions are performed accurately and on a timely basis, inaccordance with JSOX.
- Special and/ or annual projects willrequire longer than normal business hours.
- Represents the Companyin dealings with vendors and/ or government agencies, as assigned
- Other duties as assigned. Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree inFinance or Accounting, or related field. MBA preferred.
- Five (5)to eight (8) or more years related experience; or equivalentcombination of education and experience in a high-pacedmanufacturing environment. Experience in a food manufacturingenvironment preferred.
- Broad business experience, preferredexperience in cost accounting. Mastery of balance sheets, profit &loss statement, and cash flow.
- Ability to build relationshipswith others, to lead and direct the work of others and themselves
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with Expert level skills inExcel and Power Point. Knowledge of ERP systems and JD Edwardspreferred.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaintsfrom customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the businesscommunity.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills withthe ability to effectively present information to management,public groups, and /or boards of directors.
- Ability to defineproblems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions,and make sound recommendations.
- Must be self-motivated, resultsoriented, possess a high degree of initiative and work well underpressure.
- Ability to select, lead, coach, influence, motivate,develop, engage and retain a team of employees.
