Under the direction of the Vice President of Finance, oversees the Association’s daily accounting functions while supervising the Assistant Controller, Accounts Payable Specialist, and Member Service Center staff. Administers approved accounting policies and procedures throughout the YMCA and assists in the preparation of the operating budget. This position must have strong communication, technology, analytical, organizational and management skills in order to review and understand all aspects of the business that will ensure complete and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP. Essential Functions Responsible for all General Ledger functions. Coordinate the monthly accounting close and distribute monthly financial reports. Prepare quarterly financial statements as required. Coordinate and facilitate the annual audit process. Accountable for preparation of reports for outside agencies, such as, Grant Reports & Grant Compliance reports, NC Sales Tax Receivable (semi-annually), NC Sales Tax Payable Reports (monthly), NC Escheat Reports (annually), and vendor 1099s Coordinate with Grant Writer and program staff for both grant applications and subsequent reporting. Participate in various aspects of the annual operating budget. Maintain and strengthen effective internal controls. Coordinate and supervise operating cash flow management. Serve as resource to management and program personnel in all matters relating to accounting, accounts payable and member services. Ensure the accounting systems properly record, measure, and report operations, accounts payable, payroll, assets, liabilities and net assets of the Association. Directly supervises Assistant Controller, Accounts Payable Specialist, and Member Service Center staff. Point person for annual workers compensation audit. Assist the VP of Finance with property and liability insurance renewal. Work with the VP of Finance concerning financial systems and recommend new or updated policies and procedures as needed. Assist the VP of Finance on internal audits of branches and on special projects as needed. At least five years of accounting experience required, including supervisory responsibilities in the field of accounting with a working knowledge of internal controls and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Not-For-Profit accounting and reporting experience preferred. Demonstrated ability to relate to other employees in a positive manner, emphasizing cooperation and teamwork. Ability to train and supervise employees regarding accounting procedures, policies, budgets, etc.
