ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversee and manage the financial reporting staff, ensuring accurate and timely preparation and filing of all financial and statutory reports. Direct and manage general accounting supervisor and staff, including Accounts Payable, fixed assets, property tax filings, escheat filings, and bank reconciliations. Direct and Manage Accounts Receivable Manager and staff, overseeing collection and reconciliation efforts with our general agents. Act as the administrator for accounting systems, including EAS, Concur, Adaptive Planning, budgeting software, and online banking. Oversee the monthly investment journal entry process. Manage reinsurance billing and reporting. Create and maintain reports within the general ledger system to facilitate and enhance financial reporting. Implement new software and technologies, continuing to improve accounting systems and processes. Assist in coordinating and completing audits by the external audit firm and departments of insurance. Provide support to the VP of Finance on special projects as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field. CPA designation required. 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years of management or supervisory experience. Technology-savvy with experience in selecting and overseeing software installations, as well as managing relationships with software vendors. Excellent leadership, analytical, and communication skills.

REQUIRED SKILLS

Ability to write routine correspondence in the English language using correct grammar and spelling. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Skill and ability to use and operate an adding machine, computer, phone system and copier. Working knowledge of Word and proficient in Excel.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions in written or diagram form. Reasoning; dealing with problems involving complex variables in most situations. Candidate must possess and be able to apply logical thinking skills and can think creatively.
