Position Overview:
The Operations and Finance Director is a senior leadership role, responsible for ensuring the financial health and operational efficiency of the organization. This position oversees finance, human resources, information technology, and operations; and provides strategic guidance and day-to-day management to support the organization’s mission and goals.
Responsibilities:
Operational & Human Resources Leadership and Management Collaborate with the Executive Director, other staff, and consultants to define needs and build systems to meet operational, HR and technology needs. Oversee daily operations and administrative functions, ensuring resource efficiency and policy adherence. Oversee and improve our organizational employee lifecycle, including job postings and recruitment strategy; onboarding; and performance management (including personnel evaluation and work planning). Liaise with the HR team at Bend the Arc to ensure compliance with HR policies and when HR challenges emerge. Develop and manage IT systems and infrastructure to meet organizational needs, enhance operational efficiency, and maintain security of systems and data. Plan for technology upgrades to meet the needs of staff and organizational goals. Collaborate with operations staff for vendor contracts and large events logistics (i.e., staff retreats) Lead and oversee special projects that impact the whole of the organization. Financial Leadership and Management Oversee our financial management: Coordinate with Bend the Arc, our fiscal sponsor, to handle all aspects of day-to-day accounting. Ensure timely collection of income and payment of expenses. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Provide timely and accurate financial reports to the Executive Director and Leadership Team. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal financial regulations. Strategic financial analysis & planning Lead the annual budgeting process, working closely with the Executive Director, Senior Finance and Operations Manager, and Leadership Team to create a comprehensive financial plan. Monitor budget performance, provide variance analysis, and adjust forecasts as necessary. Provide strategic financial insights and recommendations to support the organization’s long-term goals, particularly for fundraising and development initiatives. Monitor and manage the organization’s cash flow, making recommendations for improvements to ensure financial stability and growth. Provide a high-level summary of the organization’s financial metrics for our Steering Committee, as well as provide key metrics (such as budget vs. actuals) and compare them against quarterly goals and budget projections. Organizational & team leadership Serve on the Directors Team, providing high-level strategic thinking and support with the lens of the whole of the organization Supervise operations staff and vendors, providing support, mentorship, and development opportunities. Collaborate with program staff to align financial, operational, HR and technology support with programmatic needs. Foster a positive workplace culture that aligns with HIH’s mission and values. Required Skills and Qualifications Nonprofit operations and human resources skills, specifically 5 or more years of experience leading staff development, technological and data systems implementation, and creating a strong and sustainable organizational culture. Strong financial management and analysis skills , specifically 5 or more years of experience and skills including familiarity with non-profit accounting standards (GAAP) and ability to translate financial concepts to Board and staff. Highly organized with strong attention to detail. Excellent leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills, including active listening, giving and receiving feedback, works well with others and builds authentic relationships across lines of difference such as race, disability, gender, class, citizenship status, and sexual orientation. Experience with supervision, facilitating meetings and training. Strategic thinker with a collaborative and solutions-oriented approach to support a team-based environment. Problem-solving orientation, with the ability to proactively and creatively develop new ideas, solve problems, and motivate team members. Commitment to Hand in Hand’s mission, values and approach, including workers rights, social justice, interdependence and collective power. Understanding of systemic oppression, with an emphasis on racism, ableism and privilege. Experience with organizations that build a base, develop leaders and advance policy campaigns through organizing. Experience working in a national, hybrid organizational context , including proficiency with Google Suite (Docs, Spreadsheet, Presentation, Meet), Dropbox, Slack, and Zoom. Preferred Experience Connection to the domestic work sector, either through family members, or as an employer, worker, caregiver, or recipient of care. Experience with
