Full Job Description Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join the finance and accounting team of a fast-paced and growing alternative finance firm. The Assistant Controller will assist in overseeing all aspects of the company’s accounting operations, including financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance. This central role is ideal for individuals looking to take the next step in their finance and accounting career, with the opportunity to join an energetic and experienced team and the ability to make an impact immediately.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting:

Assist in the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards (GAAP or IFRS). Support the CFO in preparing internal financial reports for senior management and other stakeholders. Reconcile general ledger accounts and ensure financial transactions are recorded correctly. 2.

Budgeting & Forecasting:

Support the budgeting process by collaborating with department heads to prepare annual budgets. Help with variance analysis and forecasting to ensure financial goals are met. 3.

Accounts Payable and Receivable:

Oversee the accounts payable and receivable functions to ensure accurate and timely processing of invoices and payments. Assist with credit control and collections activities to maintain healthy cash flow. 4.

Internal Controls:

Assist in the implementation and enforcement of internal controls to safeguard company assets. Monitor financial procedures and policies to ensure compliance with accounting regulations and company policies. 5.

Audit Support:

Support the annual external audit process by providing necessary documentation and responding to auditor inquiries. Help prepare schedules and reports required for tax filings. 6.

Accounting Operations:

Supervise daily accounting functions, including maintaining accurate records of transactions and preparing journal entries. Assist in preparing weekly and monthly reports for senior management and other stakeholders. 7.

System Implementation & Process Improvement:

Support the implementation of accounting software systems or upgrades. Contribute to the ongoing review and improvement of accounting processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy. 8.

Team Collaboration:

Work alongside other accounting team members and across company functions to perform and complete all required deliverables Assist in the training and development of team members, as needed, to build a high-performing finance team.

Qualifications:
Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or MBA preferred.

Experience:

3+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with ideally at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or assistant controller role.

Technical Skills:

Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Oracle, SAP) and advanced Excel skills.

Knowledge:

Strong understanding of financial regulations, accounting principles, and internal control processes.

Communication:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.

Analytical Skills:

Strong attention to detail with the ability to analyze financial data and provide actionable insights.
