The Company is currently running theindustry’s largest VMI programs at two major mass transit organizations andhas a active pipeline of additional opportunities. Significant strideshave been made in laying the foundations for the preeminent VMI program withthese current transits.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
TheSenior Buyer will analyze and support demand with minimal inventory exposurethrough optimizing inventory turns, reducing costs and minimizing writes-offswhile maintaining about a 98% fill-rate for all classifications of S.K.U.’s. He/She will be responsible for improvingin-stock positions at satellites while balancing the overall investment ininventory. This position will have a leadership role interfacing with internalteams and a global supply base on a daily basis and responsibility inrestructuring critical processes to maintain strong internal and externalrelationships. Position Specification
- Bachelorof Science Degree in business, a plus if in Materials Management.
- Acertification in Production and Inventory Control (CPIM) or CertifiedPurchasing Manager (CPM).
- A goodunderstanding of the principals and techniques of materials management, especiallyDRP/MRP systems.
- Experiencewith a wide ranging high/low cost product line is preferred.
- Experiencewith Infor SXe ERP system a plus. Advanced PC and analysis skills with strongemphasis on Excel spreadsheets, Access Database and Microsoft Office.
- Excellentcommunication and analytical skills.
- Abilityto take initiative, set priorities, to learn quickly and take ownership ofassigned projects and initiatives.
- Aconfident individual with a strong “can do” attitude who can provide innovativesolutions to problems and act with an appropriate level of urgency.
- Strongnegotiating skills. Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Analyzeweekly system-generated RRARs, supplier acknowledgements, open order actionmessages and distribute supplier schedules as needed.
- Reviewdaily, weekly and monthly service level and back order reports, implementingcorrective action where required.
- Initiateactions to manage various status codes and product purchasing parameters,depending on circumstances.
- Ensurequality control of inventory and enforce vendor compliance with internalspecifications. Identify and communicate problems and complete correctiveactions on a timely basis.
- Participatein periodic inventory cycle counts. Track and analyze variances in cyclecounts.
- Manageobsolete and excess inventory.
- Interfacewith Suppliers, Sales/Bidding/Marketing, VMI satellite buyers and general managers,and Systems to obtain information necessary for forecasting and maintainingappropriate inventory levels.
- Respondto Bidding Opportunities with the best possible pricing from suppliers. Relatedly, understand opportunities toimprove our pricing to win a bid and negotiate with the supplier (“tacticalsourcing”).
- Resolvecost and invoice discrepancies with accounting.
- Approximately5% travel is required for, but not limited to supplier visits, sales agentvisits, training seminars and DC visits.
