Position Description

Position Summary:

The Director, Business Management & Finance is a key member of the leadership team at Bethlehem Catholic High School, responsible for financial health and strategic financial planning, and for supervising the planning, organization, and management of the Business Office, including the school bookkeeper. The Director ensures long-term sustainability through sound fiscal management, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting. The role supports the school’s mission by aligning financial operations with Catholic values and educational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:
Financial Strategy and Leadership:

Serve as a strategic advisor to the Principal and Board of Directors on strategic and operational business and financial matters.
Develop and implement short- and long-term financial goals and plans to support school priorities.

Budgeting and Financial Controls:

Develop and manage the school’s annual operating budget, including tuition planning, financial aid, and fundraising projections.
Ensure expenditures meet budgeted requirements; anticipate and recommend actions to address emergent financial needs.
Provide regular business reports and analysis to the Principal and Board Finance Committee.
Develop and implement best practices and tools to identify and implement cost-savings and efficiency improvements without compromising educational quality.

Accounting and Reporting:

Supervise all business and accounting personnel and functions, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, general ledger, and allocation of financial aid.
Ensure timely and accurate financial statements, audits, and tax filings.
Coordinate annual external audit and prepare the necessary documentation.
Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal financial regulations.
Ensure compliance with diocesan policies, employment laws, and internal controls.

Tuition and Financial Aid:

Manage tuition billing and collection personnel.
Administer financial aid programs in collaboration with the admissions and development teams.
Recommend tuition and financial aid structures based on market analysis and budgetary needs.

Facilities and Business Operations:

Provide fiscal oversight of capital projects, maintenance planning, and operational expenditures.
Collaborate with Facilities Director and other operational staff on vendor management, purchasing, and contract approvals.

Risk Management and Compliance:

Maintain appropriate insurance coverage and risk management practices.

Team Leadership and Collaboration:

Lead and support the Business Office staff and collaborate closely with Admissions, Development, and Academic teams.
Promote a culture of transparency, stewardship, and mission-driven financial planning.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or equivalent experience in a related field required; CPA or MBA preferred but not required.
5-7 years of experience in financial leadership, preferably in a non-profit or educational setting.
Familiarity with school budgeting, tuition modeling, and financial aid systems (STS) preferred.

Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including clergy, educators, parents, and donors.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and stoop. Must be able to talk and hear, both in person and by telephone. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by the means of spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.

Working Conditions:

Full-time, 7:30 am – 3:00 pm; 12-month position with occasional evening and weekend responsibilities.

Compensation:
