Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Controller to lead the financial operations of our high-end consumer products company based in Charleston, SC. This key leadership role is responsible for overseeing all accounting functions, managing a team of two, and partnering with senior leadership to support strategic business decisions. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in GAAP, financial reporting, and team development, with a hands-on approach and a commitment to excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, A/R, A/P, FP&A, and month-end close. Supervise, mentor, and develop a small finance team (2 direct reports). Prepare timely and accurate financial statements, reports, and analysis for internal and external stakeholders. Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and internal policies. Coordinate budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management. Oversee inventory accounting and cost analysis related to consumer product sales. Partner with operations and executive leadership to drive financial performance and strategic initiatives. Lead process improvements to enhance efficiency and scalability within the finance function. Support audits, banking relationships, and insurance renewals as needed.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA strongly preferred). 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management role. Experience in consumer products, retail, or manufacturing industries preferred. Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls. Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar ERP systems). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and influence across departments. Detail-oriented with a strategic mindset and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
