Job Description
The University of Tennessee, Knoxville Division of Access and Engagement seeks an experienced professional for the inaugural role of Director of Finance and Administration. This position offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the University’s strategic growth.
The Director serves as a confidential advisor to the Vice Chancellor for Access and Engagement, providing strategic financial, budget, human resources and operational support. As chief financial and administrative officer, this position leads all fiscal, administrative, and operational functions while managing special projects and optimizing the Vice Chancellor’s team efficiency. The director will operationalize the Division’s vision through committee leadership, cross-functional project coordination, and project management, while supervising a financial and human resources associate. This role is designed for a highly organized, strategic professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
Serves on Vice Chancellor’s Senior Leadership Team
Functions as chief financial and administrative officer for the Division
Oversees financial planning, analysis, and maintains operational agility
Advises on strategic collaboration, financial management, reporting, and operational efficiency
Manages grants, awards, sponsorships, scholarships, contracts, accounting, and serves as primary contact with Finance and Human Resources Divisions
Coordinates strategic projects and Vice Chancellor events including leadership meetings, division-wide meetings, and retreats
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
Financial planning, analysis, and reporting expertise
12+ years of progressively related experience, preferably in complex higher education
Strong budget, fiscal, project management, writing, and reporting skills
Established relationships with key university stakeholders
Discretion with sensitive information
Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree strongly preferred
10+ years of progressively related experience in higher education
Skills in process improvement and policy development
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of UT policies and procedures
Ability to synthesize complex financial data
Strategic decision-making and problem-solving capabilities
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Professional demeanor with strong confidentiality practices
