Position Summary:
The Underwriting Assistant is responsible for providing administrative support to Underwriting and efficiently and accurately processing mail for the corporation
Note:
This is a hybrid position that requires attendance each Monday and Wednesday at our St. Petersburg, FL office. Typical Essential Duties Reviews insurance applications to assess exposure and determine risk acceptability in line with company guidelines. Coordinates the end-to-end process for new and renewal business submissions, including preliminary quoting subject to review and/or approval and scheduling inspections. Makes underwriting decisions within delegated authority and prepares files for underwriter review when necessary. Delegated authority includes but is not limited to reviewing a submission against our underwriting guidelines and, when the facts objectively do not require a more advanced underwriting review, communicating a decision. Verifies the completeness and accuracy of information, ensuring all risk factors are properly evaluated. Orders and reviews inspection and investigative reports; flags issues and recommends follow-up actions for renewals. Collaborates with underwriters and agents to gather missing data and clarify submissions. Analyzes business income worksheets, statements of value, and other underwriting documents. Maintains organized underwriting files, ensuring data accuracy and compliance with internal procedures. Responds to broker inquiries, articulates underwriting decisions made by an underwriter or underwriting executive, and assists in resolving issues as needed. Contributes to team knowledge sharing and supports special projects as part of business initiatives. Receives, opens, time/date stamps, sorts, and delivers (via traditional delivery or scanning, as appropriate) incoming mail by department and/or employee to ensure timely distribution. Collects, weighs, meters, and processes all outgoing mail. Performs other duties as required or assigned that are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job description. Requirements:
Requirements and Competencies Education/Licensure:
Associate degree preferred.
Professional Credentials :
AIM, AINS, API, AU, or CPCU preferred.
Experience:
At least one (1) year of relevant work experience (experience in the insurance industry preferred). An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be acceptable in lieu of the Education and Experience requirements listed above.
Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated success in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Excellent verbal and written communication proficiency. Strong interpersonal expertise, including use of tact, patience, courtesy, and collaboration. Demonstrable computer application skills including Microsoft Office Suite of programs and the ability to learn various internal and/or proprietary software packages.
Microsoft Excel experience:
intermediate skill level. Effective use of office machinery such as photocopiers, printers, and scanners. Physical Position typically requires reaching, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Sedentary Work:
