Position Summary:
The Anesthesia Technician / Operating Room Assistant position is a dual role. Responsibilities include assisting the anesthesia team prior to, during, and following patient procedures. Maintains and restocks anesthesia supplies and equipment in the operating room. Assists with patient positioning, room setup, OR turnover, cleaning and restocking.
Essential Position Responsibilities:
Assembles, disassembles and cleans anesthesia equipment used during surgical procedures. Ensures there are no leaks and/or broken parts. Replaces soiled parts. Stocks anesthesia drug and supply carts. This includes workrooms, tanks room, pump room, and other areas. Receives sterile items from the Central Processing Department and store as appropriate. May be present during a surgical procedure or remain on call outside the room to obtain equipment and supplies. Checks, and replaces anesthesia gas tanks, disassembles used anesthesia equipment, disinfects machines and supply carts, replaces used products and supplies. May perform daily anesthesia equipment inspections including suction, electrical plugs, gas connections, oxygen, and nitrous oxide cylinders. May assist in positioning patients for procedures. Dispose of contaminated materials and disinfect equipment in accordance with general operating room policies and procedures concerning biohazardous waste. Assist in surgical suite cleaning process and assume responsibility for prompt room turnover times. Responsible for checking the OR bed or positioning devices for proper attachments. Demonstrate a working knowledge of all tables and positioning devices and attachments. Clean all positioning equipment and bed attachments prior to putting away. Delivers appropriate positioning equipment to each room. Assists in positioning of patients for surgical procedures. Holds extremities for skin prep. Delivers PACU stretchers/patient beds to room upon request. Assists in transferring the patients from the OR table to the PACU. Assists in transferring patients to PACU when necessary. Dispose of soiled linen and replace with clean laundry bag. Dispose of trash and re-line buckets with plastic liners. Mops floor with a clean mop and disinfectant solution after every case. Empties suction canisters into safety station in dirty utility room. Manages the emptying, cleaning, and dispersion of fluid management system. Replace clean suction canisters and tubing at each suction regulator in the OR. Cleans and re-makes OR bed and/or stretcher.
Position Requirements:
High school diploma, GED or equivalent required .
Skills and Abilities:
Ability to set priorities. Ability to take direction from others and provide information that is clear, concise and promotes efficiency on the unit. Ability to communicate well with Physicians, Patients, Co-workers, etc. Ability to demonstrate flexibility with assignments and schedule.
