SCHOOL-BASED MENTAL HEALTH
THERAPIST General Statement of Job:
The SBMH Therapist works under the direct supervision of a Clinical Supervisor qualified and experienced in school-based services. This position provides on-site therapy to school site(s) and families as directed by the Clinical Supervisor or the Director of Student Services. The SBMH Therapist serves as a ready resource for students to provide therapy that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills:
For this position, Social Workers in NC must have at least a Master’s degree in Social Work, and hold either their LCSW or LCSWA clinical licensure or provisional licensure. Counselors in NC must have at least a Master’s degree in Counseling, and hold either their LCMHC or LCMHCA clinical licensure or provisional licensure.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Meets with the Clinical Supervisor one hour per week or month (depending on licensure) for individual supervision and participates in weekly group supervision. Conducts the intake/screening/assessment process within appropriate time frames and in conjunction with school site staff and administration. Provides in-person individual student therapy services on a weekly basis and family therapy monthly. Consults with classroom staff, student assistance program coordinators, school counselors, school social workers, and behavior specialists in understanding students’ social emotional abilities and needs. Serves as a part of the school’s student services team as well as threat team. Will manage crises in the school building and complete mental health assessments when a student is experiencing SI/HI.
